“Prior to automated cutting, constructing a modest trading ship required approximately 10 lumberjacks working for three months,” notes the author. “With wind-powered sawmills, an identical quantity of processed timber could be produced in less than a week.”

Owing to their rapid automated cutter, that turned logs into boards with almost no human effort, Dutch builders could build vessels more quickly than any other nation, which unleashed a century of Netherlands maritime, financial as well as cultural supremacy in the continent and the globe.

The First True Industrial Machine

The inventor's sawmill, contends Dávila, was “humanity’s initial true factory apparatus.” A wind turbine rotated a wheel.
